animated Watch faces
A series of motion-based watchfaces, featuring a character which responds in accordance to scenarios such as: awakening the watch, incoming notifications and low battery.
When it came to motion design for watch faces, we focused on keeping it concise and simple, ensuring that it complemented the primary elements without obstructing the visibility of the main focus: time.
My responsibilities included developing the narrative solution, storyboarding the scenes, and animating them.

Based on the design of the characters, we gave them traits which made their motion distinct from one another, while the other props and elements helped in forming a narrative for each scenario.
The process included coming up with different narratives for the characters, storyboarding them and animating the sequence in After Effects.
The process
In the exploration phase, we would make multiple animations for all the scenarios and move ahead with the one which was short, expressive and not interfering with the primary focus: time.
We treated all the elements on screen as part of the space for the character, including the digits and the notification icon placed on the left of the screen. This animations subtly encouraged the users to attend to their notifications, if any.
To indicate the low battery status of the watch, we showed the character with droopy features and a sleepy behaviour, which prompted the user to recharge the device for optimal performance.
There are additional behind-the-scenes materials that are not available for public viewing. Access to these resources is granted on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the request.
